Origins
Saha Pathanapibul PLC was founded by Dr. Thiam Chokwatana
in 1942 under the name “Hiab Seng Chiang”, and located in the
AniaKeng side street of Songwad Road.With a modest initial investment
of just 10,000 baht, the company sold a range of miscellaneous goods
imported from Hong Kong. Shortly after, Hiab Seng Chiangexpanded
and began to operate as a distributor of imported goods.
In 1952 “Hiab Seng Chiang” changed names to
Saha Pathanapibul Co.,Ltd., and increased registered capital to
1 million baht. At this time,the company operated as distributor for
a variety of imported consumer products, and shortly after constructed
a factory facility in a jointventure with Lion Corporation (Japan), to
manufacture ,toothpaste, shampoo,and laundry detergent,as well as
a separate factory to manufactureMama brand instant noodles.
Building on the commercial success of Pao Bun Jin laundry detergent
and Mama brand instant noodles, Saha Pathanapibul was able to
expand the Sri Racha factory, and registered with the Stock Exchange
of Thailand as a publicly listed company, with a registered capital
of 30 million baht in 1978.
In 1988 Saha Pathanapibul once again increased registered capital
to 200 million baht. Today, Saha Pathanapibul is recognized as
Thailand’s leading distributor of consumer goods, with a registered
capital of 600 million baht.
